An overview of how instructors may use the inbox tool in Canvas to communicate with course participants.
The Canvas Inbox
The inbox in Canvas is a messaging tool to facilitate communication between a group or individual participants within a course. Students may use the inbox to send and receive messages with others in the course.
- To view the inbox, click the “Inbox” link in the Global Navigation menu. The Inbox is organized chronologically from newest to oldest, with newest conversations appearing at the top.

- To compose a message, click on the blue "Compose" button in the upper right-hand corner of the Inbox page and select applicable courses and recipients.

Note: The View Inbox Toolbar allows Instructors to search, filter and compose messages. Icons in the View Inbox Toolbar provide pathways to reply/reply-all to a conversation, and to archive or delete a conversation.
