More Time on a Quiz/Test/Exam
The Quizzes tool allows for various question types, such as essay and multiple choice. If your assessment has a time limit, follow these steps to provide additional time for students with accommodations:
1. Go to your Quiz and select Build. (If on Quiz Details, select Build at the bottom.)

2. Go to the Settings tab and toggle "Time limit" On (green tab with a check mark). Select the overall time limit for the assessment for the general group of students.
3. On the Moderate tab, locate the student with the accommodation on the roster and select the pencil icon on the right to edit.

4. From the "Current Quiz Accommodation" menu, select "Give additional time" under the "Time" setting. Input the extra time needed, and then select Apply to save.
The student’s accommodation will now appear in the student roster in the Moderate tab for the corresponding Quiz.
More Time to Submit Assignments
When you edit the settings for a new Assignment, you’ll be able to determine the date that the assignment is due, when it becomes available, and when you’ll close submissions. Some instructors choose to make the “Until” setting a few days after the “Due Date” to allow time for late submissions.
If you have a student with an accommodation that includes additional days to submit work, follow the steps below.
First you need to set the general due date for your Assignment. Select the option to edit your assignment, then, in the Assignment Details, navigate to the section labelled “Assign Access.” When you give the assignment its initial due date, this will input the selection “Everyone” in the field called “Assign To.” Assign your dates as desired. When editing a new Assignment, you set the Due Date, availability date, and submission close date ("Until"). Some instructors set the "Until" date a few days after the "Due Date" for late submissions.
To accommodate a student needing extra time, first set the general due date. Edit the assignment, navigate to "Assign Access" in Assignment Details, and set your desired dates. The initial due date will set "Assign To" as "Everyone."

Below the recorded dates, select "+ Assign To" to create new due dates.
In the new box, use the "Assign To" field to add the specific student or students with accommodations. The previous dates will automatically change to "Everyone else."
Add the new due date based on the student's accommodation (e.g., two days after the initial due date for a two-day extension). Assign other dates as needed.

When you save this change, you will now see two different due dates and who they are for displayed on the Assignment’s page.

Chunking an Assessment
Some students may require "chunked" assessments. This accommodation ensures that if a student needs to pause and resume an exam later, they only see the specific sections they have already completed
In Canvas, you can display questions all at once or one at a time. To set a Quiz to display one question per page, follow these steps:e.
1. Navigate to your Quiz and click Build. (If you are on the Quiz Details page, click Build at the bottom of the screen).

2. Navigate to the Settings tab.
3. Toggle the One question at a time setting to On (indicated by a green checkmark).
4. Optional: Choose whether to allow or disallow Backtracking. If you disallow backtracking, students cannot return to a previous question once they have moved forward.

Depending on the nature of your assessment and the students’ needs, it may be more appropriate to split a longer assessment into multiple smaller parts and make those assessment parts available only to the student(s) with the relevant accommodation.
