The Syllabus in Canvas
The syllabus function in Canvas is intended to communicate to participants what is required of them throughout the course, and can be used in different ways. Firstly, instructors have the option to share a traditional syllabus document at the top of the Syllabus page in the "Course Syllabus" section. Additionally, instructors may elect to utilize an automatic function called the "Course Summary" which organizes assignments with due dates into a chronological list.
Instructors also have the option of hiding (or unpublishing) the Syllabus page from view.
To view and edit the syllabus, click the “Syllabus” link in the In Course Navigation menu.

To make changes to the Syllabus, click the "Edit" button in the top right-hand corner.
The About section features text highlighted in yellow wherein instructors are invited to link to or post a traditional syllabus. This section can also be used to add class guidelines, weekly reminders, and other important information. Please view the resources linked below to learn how to upload a syllabus as a course file or embed the document in the Rich Content Editor.
The Course Summary is listed beneath the About section. It automatically generates a chronological list of course assignments and calendar events. While items within the Course Summary can only be edited through the corresponding assignments or events, and changes to assignment or events will be reflected in the Course Summary.
To hide the Course Summary from participant view, untick the “Show Course Summary” box below the syllabus description while editing the page.

Click the blue “Update syllabus” button beneath to save changes.
