An overview of grading options in Canvas.
Grading Canvas
The Canvas gradebook displays columns that correspond with graded assignments, discussions, and quizzes that have been published. Assignments that are not graded are not included in the gradebook. Course participants are organized by row.
To view the gradebook, click the Grades link in the Course Navigation menu.

To change the gradebook view, click the linked "Gradebook" drop-down menu in the top left-hand corner of the page.

Then, in the "Change Gradebook" view menu, select one of the following options as defined by Instructure:
- Traditional Gradebook: Displays all students, assignments, and grades. This gradebook is the most common default and is also known as just "Gradebook."
- Individual Gradebook: Allows instructors to assess one student and one assignment at a time and is fully accessible for screen readers. Individual View currently does not support settings and options from the Gradebook.
- Gradebook History: Displays the Gradebook History page, which logs recent grade changes in the course according to student, grader, assignment, and date.
- Learning Mastery Gradebook: Displays the Learning Mastery Gradebook, which assesses outcome standards being used in Canvas courses. This gradebook is a course-level feature option.
To adjust gradebook settings, which include late policies, a grade posting policy, grade override, and viewing options associated with the course gradebook, click the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

As an example of a setting that may be adjusted, the assignment status color chart depicts the default shades associated with assignments in the gradebook:

In the gradebook, clicking on a cell associated with a course participant will yield the Grade Detail Tray, which allows instructors to manually enter grades, alter submission status, and add commentary. The Grade Detail Tray also provides access to the Canvas SpeedGrader.
As an example, clicking on a given cell (right-hand image below) will yield the Grade Detail Tray (left-hand image below) to the right-hand side of the page:
