Downloading the Canvas Teacher Mobile App
If you would like to download the Canvas app as an instructor, navigate to your device’s application store. If you search for Canvas, you will see multiple different versions of the application. Select the Canvas Teacher app if you are an instructor in order to properly access the features available to instructors. The icons may differ in color depending on your device, so locating the “Teacher” label is the best option to ensure you have the correct app.
Navigating the Canvas Teacher Mobile App
The Canvas Teacher application has three main tabs along the bottom labelled “Courses,” “To Do,” and “Inbox.” Additionally, a menu on the top left represented by three horizontal lines opens a sidebar with options to access your files and settings, the Help menu, and the ability to log out.
Courses
The Courses tab displays all of your courses.
Selecting a course will open a mobile-friendly version of your course’s navigation menu, allowing you to access sections like Modules, Assignments, and any other course components normally accessed through course navigation.
While navigating a course and viewing its contents is straightforward in the Canvas Teacher application, we recommend using a computer for actions such as adding content to Modules and creating new Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes.
To Do
The To Do list will display actions you need to take as an instructor, just like the To Do list that appears on the right hand side of the Dashboard in the computer view of Canvas. This is usually a list of assignments that have submissions which require grading. A red circle with a number in it next to the label To Do indicates how many items require your attention.
Selecting one of these To Do items will open the mobile grading interface.
Inbox
The Inbox tab of the Canvas Teacher mobile app opens a mobile-friendly version of the Canvas Inbox messaging system.
You may tap on a message thread to open it, navigate to different messages using the tabs along the top, or create a new message using the plus sign icon in the top right corner.
