Understand local user accounts on lab and classroom computers

Summary

User accounts and data on lab and classsroom computers.

Body

Overview

This article explains how computer user accounts work on lab and classroom computers, including how and when data is saved on those accounts.

Lab and classroom computers

If you log in using your MHC credentials, lab computers will create a user account for you that saves all your local files and settings on that machine only.

This local user account information will be deleted 30 days after your last login to that same machine.

Remember to log out when you're done with the computer to protect your privacy.

Classroom podium computers

Windows

Classroom podium computers running Windows do not create local user accounts that last for 30 days after your last login. Data stored on the desktop and in documents will not be saved when you log out. Computers should be restarted at the end of class if you signed into any MHC services, including Google, in order to protect your MHC account.

macOS

Classroom podium computers running macOS will create local user accounts that last until the end of the semester. Data stored on the desktop and in documents will remain after logout, and computers should be logged out or restarted at the end of class if used, in order to protect your MHC account.
