Instructions for employees with campus telephones for finding the extensions for their colleagues.
Overview
This article outlines how to use the directory search in the campus phone system to find the extension of the person or department that you'd like to call.
On an Avaya VoIP phone
Follow the instructions below to find your contact using the phone's organizational directory.

- Press the CONTACTS key marked with a little person icon to the bottom left of the circular button in the center of the interface to access the contacts directory
- Use the left and right keys on the circular button to select the type of directory entries you want to search
- All - All directory entries
- Personal - Your own personal directory entries
- External - Directory entries stored by the telephone system for all users to use
- Users - The names and numbers of other users on the telephone system
- Groups - The names and numbers of hunt groups on the telephone system
- Use the up and down keys on the circular button to scroll through the list
- Alternatively, you can search for the name you want using the keypad:
- Pressing a key enters all of the characters represented by that key
- Pressing another key adds the characters from that button to the previous key press
- For example, dialing 527 matches all names starting with JAS (for example "Jason") and with KAR (for example "Karl") plus any other letter combinations from those 3 key presses
- To remove all the characters entered so far, press Clear
- To view more details of the highlighted name, press Details
- To return to the directory press List
- When the required entry is highlighted, 1) press Call, 2) press the rectangular button next to the name, or 3) lift the handset to make the call
- Proceed as you would with a normally dialed call
