Troubleshoot challenges logging into Macs in MHC labs and classrooms.
Overview
Instructions for troubleshooting issues logging into Mac computers in MHC computer labs and classrooms.
Issue
If you changed your MHC Account password recently, this can sometimes mean you'll have challenges logging into lab or classroom Mac computers that you previously logged into with your old password. Computers may store or cache the old password in different ways.
Resolution
- Please log in with your new password first. If this succeeds and you are prompted to enter a local password, enter your old password. This will update your log in only on this particular computer. Any other classroom or lab Mac will require you to do this the first time after a password change.
If this first option does not work please try:
- Log in with your old MHC Account password and, if you can get in, update your password in XCreds (located in the top menu bar).
If neither of these options work, contact the LITS Technology Help Desk. In a lab you could use a different computer that you haven't logged into previously.
Avoid making more than 3 attempts to log in to a computer at a time. Excessive attempts may lock the account at the computer and/or MHC account level.
