How to fix when Chrome isn't updating and manual updates are disabled

Overview

What to do if you find that your Chrome browser is stuck on an old version and manual updates are disabled.

Issue

Sometimes an employee's Windows computer gets the lab/classroom version of Chrome installed, which has local updates disabled.

Resolution

A quick band-aid solution if you're an administrator on the computer is to uninstall Chrome and reinstall the latest version from the web. That won't let you enable automatic updates or update manually again in the future, but it will get you the newest version quickly.

To fix the underlying issue, reach out to the LITS Technology Help Desk and inform us of the issue. One of our field technicians will be able to push a setting to your computer to enable automatic updates.
