Group Sets

Canvas Group Sets

Creating a group set is the initial step for forming participant groups in a Canvas course. It acts as a container for groups, defining parameters like the group name, participant limit (with a minimum of two), and assignment method. A course can have multiple group sets, and participants can belong to more than one.

  1. To create a group set, select the linked "People" tab in the Course Navigation Menu.

  2.  Click the blue "+Group Set" button on the right-hand side of the page.

  3. Create the Group Set by adding a name, determining whether participants may sign up themselves, and setting group structure parameters.

    Note: if students are split by number of groups or students per group, an instructor will have the option to designate a student group leader.
     
  4.  Click the blue "Save" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the pop up.

Established group sets can be found on the People page next to the "Everyone" tab.
