Adding a Group Assignment
Canvas uses group sets as the means to administer assignments to groups. When creating an assignment, instructors may assign it to different groups. Each group is able to turn in one submission, and the awarded grade applies to all members in the group by default.
Canvas allows setting different availability and due dates for group and individual assignments. Participants must be added to groups before a group assignment is published, as adding them later may impact their grade and submission records. Editing a group assignment is restricted once submissions begin.
- To assign an assignment to a group, scroll to the "Group Assignment" section beneath Assignment settings as an Assignment is being created or edited. Select the "This is a Group Assignment" check box. Select the desired Group Set.
Note: The group assignment tool cannot be used with integrations such as Gradescope.
