Courses are not visible to students in Canvas until they are published. Instructors can decide to publish when they feel their course is ready.
Students can view your course as soon as it is published. You may publish a course at any time prior to the beginning of the semester.
Students can participate in a course (submit assignments, post to discussions, etc) beginning two weeks before the start of classes, as long as the course has already been published.
Students can continue viewing and participating in a course for one week following the date that grades are due. After this point, courses will no longer be visible to students within Canvas.
Extensions can be granted to students if they need to continue their participation or viewing of a course past the dates listed above. Please contact the Ed Tech team if you have questions about granting extensions.
Publishing a Course
A course’s published or unpublished status can be checked and adjusted on its Home page.

The Course Status displays on the right-hand side of the page. A circle with a slash through it denotes an unpublished status, while a circle with a green checkmark signals the course is published.

The Course Status can be adjusted by selecting a different status under the drop-down menu.
The course’s status, whether maintained or changed, will show beneath the Course Status.
