What is it?
MHC uses Google Gemini Education, Google's generative AI. Tools include:

Gemini App: designed to understand and generate text, code, images, audio, and video and interact dynamically with users. There are several different modes to interact in the Gemini App, depending on your goal.

Gemini in Google Workspace: Embeds generative AI into Google Workspace apps like Docs, Gmail and Drive. Learn more about new Gemini Capabilities in Google Docs.

Workspace Studio allows for automating tasks within and between different Google tools.

Gemini Notebook (formerly known as "Notebook LM"): Gemini’s research and thinking tool which allows for a controlled environment of curated information sources and specialized output options for learning and understanding.
Gemini is an approved GenAI tool, which has been vetted by the College for acceptable data practices when used with a Mount Holyoke account in alignment with the data handling procedures and the Guidelines for Ethical Use of AI. When using this and any tool in academic work, students should follow the guidelines set by faculty in their individual courses.
Using your MHC account for Gemini ensures your data is protected. Similar protections are not available in personal free or paid plans. To ensure your data is protected when using Gemini, be sure to login with your MHC account which guarantees that:

Content and interactions will not be used in the training of AI models, or visible to Google employees or bots.

Gemini Notebooks may only be shared with Mount Holyoke users.

Sources uploaded to Gemini Notebooks are not available to download (unless it is a link to publicly available information on the web).

Gemini conversation chats are retained for three months. Users may manually delete individual chats.
