Overview
For systems that we manage, LITS assesses available AI features and follows a process to determine if we'll enable them for the campus community.
This article outlines the tools that have been assessed and approved for use.
Important note for students: When using generative AI tools in academic work, students must follow the guidelines set by faculty in their individual courses, and be transparent about the origin and process used for their submitted work. See:

Zoom AI Companion provides additional functionality to zoom meetings including summaries, recordings, chat responses and smart recordings

Zoom does not use content from meetings to train its AI model.
Content from the meeting, including summaries, are retained and controlled by the meeting host.
The AI Companion should be disabled before discussing sensitive and/or private information.

All participants in a meeting using Zoom AI companion should be informed of its use. Recording of any meetings or conversations should always occur with the knowledge and permission of all participants.
To improve pronoun accuracy in meeting summaries and AI Companion chats, customize your profile to include your pronouns, and choose when to share them during a meeting or webinar. |
| Google Gemini |
Google Gemini is a generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Google, based on its large language model.
It can generate text, create images and write code. It can integrate with Google's suite of apps.

Gemini accessed with a Mount Holyoke Google account does not train its model on content from users, but does retain interactions for individual users for 3 months after each “chat” interaction.

Users should be explicit in prompting Gemini to use data appropriate to the request. Gemini relies on the user’s assigned Google Drive permissions (files/shared drives). Gemini is approved for use with confidential, internal and public data as defined in the College’s data classification policy.
Files shared with collaborators via Google Drive will be available for Gemini use by collaborators. Never store, share or use Gemini with restricted data as defined in the College’s data classification policy.

| Adobe Firefly |
Adobe Firefly is both a standalone and integrated AI tool within the Adobe Suite of applications. It allows users to create images, videos, audio, and vector graphics using text-based prompts and provided content like images, videos, and CAD references. |
Adobe Firefly does not train on user generated content, nor unlicensed copyrighted material. User created content does not have copyright restrictions based on training content.
Firefly automatically attaches Content Credentials to indicate when something was created or modified with generative AI/Using provenance technology, creators can attach “Do Not Train” credentials that travel with their content wherever it goes.

Beginning in Fall 2026, all active students, staff and faculty have access to the Adobe Firefly application, and Firefly AI tools within Adobe Express.
Each individual user has 1,000 “credits” per month, that are spent with Firefly AI tasks. Credit amounts are refreshed at the beginning of each month.
