What to do if you find you can't log into your College-owned Windows computer from off-campus.
Issue
You try to log into your MHC-owned Windows computer off campus (especially after resetting your MHC Account password) and you get an incorrect password error.
Resolution
When you change your MHC Account password, your College-owned Windows computer may not know there is a new password right away, especially if you are working at home.
Though you would normally use your MHC password to log in to the computer, your computer still has the old password in its cache.
To update the password on the computer:
- Log in to the computer using your old MHC Account password*
- If you are off-campus, connect to the VPN; If VPN prompts you for a password use your new MHC Account password
- Lock the screen by holding down the Windows key and pressing the L key
- Log in with your new MHC Account password
*If you don't remember your old MHC Account password, you'll need to come to campus and connect to the campus network. That will allow your computer to check in with our password system and receive your new MHC Account password.
