What to do if you find you can't log into your College-owned Windows computer from off-campus.
Issue
You try to log into your MHC-owned Windows computer off campus (especially after resetting your MHC Account password or your MHC Account username has changed) and you get a login error.
Resolution
When you change your MHC Account password or have your MHC Account username changed, your College-owned Windows computer may not recognize the change right away, especially if you are working at home and your computer hasn't had a chance to "phone home" to the campus network.
Though you would normally use your MHC password to log in to the computer, your computer still has the old information stored in its cache.
To log into the computer:
- Log in to the computer using your old MHC Account credentials*
- Make sure you're connected to the campus network
- Lock the screen by holding down the Windows key and pressing the L key
- Log back into the computer with your new MHC Account credentials
*If you don't remember your old MHC Account password, you'll need to come to campus and connect to the campus network. That will allow your computer to check in with our password system and receive your new MHC Account password.
