You can save your most frequently visited sites as bookmarks, so you won't have to remember the site's name. You may need to export your bookmarks to a file if you're bringing your college-owned computer in for service or receiving a new computer.
Overview
Use these instructions to export your bookmarks as an HTML file. There are instructions for each of the main Internet browsers. Instructions for Google Chrome and Firefox will work for both Mac and PC machines.
Steps for your preferred browser
Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome and in the upper right corner, select the three vertical dots.
- Under the Bookmarks menu, select Bookmark manager.
- A new Bookmarks tab will open. Select the three vertical dots next to the search bookmarks bar.
- Select Export bookmarks.
- A new window will open asking where you would like to save this file. Choose a location and select Save.
Firefox
- Open Firefox and in the upper right corner, select the three horizontal lines.
- Select Bookmarks. At the bottom of this list, select Manage bookmarks.
- A new window will open. Select the Import and Backup button in the toolbar.
- Select Export Bookmarks to HTML...
- A new window will open asking you where you would like to save this file. Choose a location and select Save.
Windows Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge,
- Select the Favorites icon (half-star with three horizontal lines).
- Select the three horizontal dots.
- Select Export Favorites.
- A new window will open asking you where you would like to save this file. Choose a location and select Save.
Mac Safari
- Open Safari.
- In the top menu bar, select File.
- From the drop-down menu, select Export.
- A new window will open asking you where you would like to save this file. Choose a location and select Save.
