Library course reserves information

What is it?

Course reserves are materials (including books, AV materials, journal articles, and electronic resources) chosen by the faculty to support class instruction. Materials can be checked out for shorter loan periods than materials in the general collection to allow more people to be able to access their course readings in a timely manner.

Who can use it?

MHC students, staff, faculty, and Five College students enrolled in an MHC course can borrow course reserves.

MHC faculty and staff can place course reserves.

How do I access course reserves?

Access print course reserves in person at the Main Library Circulation Desk, Pratt Music Library Circulation Desk, and the Language & Culture Commons. Electronic materials can be accessed online through Advanced Discover Search and Moodle

How do I place course reserves?

Readings marked required, recommended, and optional in my.mtholyoke are automataically placed on reserve. Faculty can place additional supplementary readings on reserve through the online course reserve system. Book or scanning requests may also be made in-person at the Circulation Desk or via email to libcirc@mtholyoke.edu.

Hours/Availability

Physical reserves are available whenever the library is open. Electronic reserves (ebooks) are available any time via Moodle or Advanced Discover Search, however, some ebooks have limitations on the number of users who can access them simultaneously. These limitations are noted in the record (e.g. “E-Book (1 User)” in the call number).

Requests to place course reserves will be processed by staff at the Circulation Desk during regular business hours when the College is open.
