How to install a network printer on your MHC-owned computer

Overview

Follow the instructions below to install a campus printer to your MHC-owned macOS or Windows computer. To print from a personal device, install Mobility Print.

 

 macOS

Install in one click with the app icon for the self service application Self-Service application 

Most commonly used printers are available to install in one click in the Self-Service application on macOS.

  1. Open the app icon for the self service application Self-Service application
  2. Navigate down to Printers in the left-hand menu
  3. Find the printer you want to install
  4. Choose Install

 

Manual install

For any printers you don't see in Self-Service, you can follow the manual installation instructions printed, laminated, and attached to each departmental MFD. Follow those instructions (outlined generally below) to manually install the printer of your choice. 

  1. Open System PreferencesPrinters & Scanners 
  2. Choose Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax 
  3. Select the IP tab
    1. Fill-in the following information: 
      • Address: print.ms.mtholyoke.edu
      • Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
      • Queue: Enter the printer's name (e.g. cl320-mfd or mw17-cp)
      • Name: Enter the printer's name (e.g. cl320-mfd or mw17-cp)
      • Use: Choose Select Software and search for the one that matches the printer's model. Look at the number on the front of the printer to see which model you've got. Here are the choices for our most common models:
        • Large MFDs: Search 5540 or 3525 and then select Canon iR-ADV C5540 III PS or Canon iR-ADV C3525 III PS 
        • Desktop MFDs: Search 356 and then select Canon iR-ADV C356 III PS  
        • Canon Desktop Printers: Search for 1440 and then select Canon imageCLASS X LBP1440 
    2. Choose OK
  4. Choose Add 

 

 Windows

  1. Make sure you're connected to the campus network (eduroam, hardwired ethernet, or VPN)
  2. Select the Windows start button and type \\print 
  3. Choose Enter to run the command
  4. Search for the printer by name (Example: LITS-Circulation-mfd, cl320-mfd, or mw17-cp)
  5. Select the printer to install it:
    • EITHER double-click on the printer name
    • OR right click > choose Connect
  6. You are now connected to the printer, but we suggest you run a test print to ensure your computer can communicate with the connected printer
