Duo MFA: How to manage devices for Duo verification

Overview

There are several reasons you may need to manage your Duo devices.

This article outlines instructions for what to do in each case.

Setting up an additional device for Duo verification

Steps

  1. Go to duo.mtholyoke.edu in an INCOGNITO OR PRIVATE browser window on a device where you can already complete Duo verification
  1. Log in with your MHC Account username and password
  2. Select Other options > Manage devices

Two Duo screens. On the left the Other options button is circled in red. There's an arrow indicating that the Duo screen on the right is what you see after selecting Other options. The righthand Duo screen has the Manage Devices option circled in red.

  1. To complete identity verification, select the method you already have set up and complete authentication to go to the manage devices page
  2. On the Manage devices page, choose Add a device and then select the new verification method you'd like to set up
    • To add a phone or tablet, choose Duo Mobile
    • Depending on the device that you're completing this process on you may also be offered a biometric verification method like Touch ID or Windows Hello

On the left is the Add a device box on the manage devices screen with a red arrow clicking on it. On the right, after an arrow indicating that it results from the click on the left, is a Duo screen that offers options of additional Duo methods that could be configured on that device.

  1. Follow the prompts to complete the setup process
  2. While you're on the manage devices page, you can also edit or delete any of the other devices/methods that you've configured previously

Using a Duo Bypass code to manage your devices

If you are having trouble completing Duo verification, you may need a Duo Bypass code to get into your MHC Duo account and fix your devices. You can request one from the LITS Technology Help Desk using the MHC Account access support service. If the LITS Technology Help Desk thinks that this is the best option for you, they will provide one. If there is a different way to support you that the LITS Technology Help Desk thinks is going to be easier or a better experience, you may be offered something else.

This article has step-by-step instructions for what to do once you have a Bypass code from the LITS Technology Help Desk.

Steps

  1. Go to duo.mtholyoke.edu in an INCOGNITO OR PRIVATE browser window
  2. Log in with your MHC Account username and password
  3. Select Other options > Manage devices > Bypass Code

Three Duo screens showing the process of selecting other options, then manage devices, then bypass code.

  1. After entering the bypass code, it should take you to the Manage Devices page.
  2. From there, you should be able to delete the device that you were having trouble with (Choose Edit > Delete) and add a new one, which should guide you through the set-up process.
