Instructions for users who need to manage their Duo-enabled devices.
Overview
There are several reasons you may need to manage your Duo devices.
This article outlines instructions for what to do in each case.
Setting up an additional device for Duo verification
Steps
- Go to duo.mtholyoke.edu in an INCOGNITO OR PRIVATE browser window on a device where you can already complete Duo verification
Important: If you don't use an incognito/private browser window, your browser may skip over the Duo verification steps because it's considered a "remembered device". This will result in you being unable to complete the rest of the steps in this section.
- Log in with your MHC Account username and password
- Select Other options > Manage devices
Important: If you simply complete Duo verification instead of selecting "Other options" at this step, you'll skip the screen that lets you access the manage devices page.
- To complete identity verification, select the method you already have set up and complete authentication to go to the manage devices page
- On the Manage devices page, choose Add a device and then select the new verification method you'd like to set up
- To add a phone or tablet, choose Duo Mobile
- Depending on the device that you're completing this process on you may also be offered a biometric verification method like Apple TouchID or Windows Hello
- Follow the prompts to complete the setup process
- While you're on the manage devices page, you can also edit or delete any of the other devices/methods that you've configured previously
Using a Duo Bypass code to manage your devices
Before you Start, you'll need:
- A Duo Bypass code from the LITS Technology Help Desk
If you are having trouble completing Duo verification, you may need a Duo Bypass code to get into your MHC Duo account and fix your devices. You can request one from the LITS Technology Help Desk using the MHC Account access support service. This article has step-by-step instructions for what to do once you have the Bypass code.
Important: Carefully follow the instructions in this section. If you choose "Bypass code" instead of "Manage devices" when Duo first presents it to you, entering the Bypass code won't fix the underlying issue. You may be able to complete Duo authentication at that moment, but the next time you attempt to log into a service that requires it you'll need another Bypass code.
Steps
- Go to duo.mtholyoke.edu in an incognito/private browser session
- Log in with your MHC Account username and password
- Select Other options > Manage devices
Important: If you choose "Bypass code" instead of "Manage devices" at the first step, entering the Bypass code won't fix the underlying issue. You may be able to complete Duo authentication at that moment, but the next time you attempt to log into a service that requires it you'll need another Bypass code.
- Then select Bypass code
- After entering the bypass code, it should take you to the Manage Devices page
- From there, you should be able to delete the device that you were having trouble with (Choose Edit > Delete) and add a new one, which should guide you through the set-up process.
If the device you're trying to delete is the only verification method you have set up, you may not be given the option to delete the device. In that case, request support from the LITS Technology Help Desk in deleting the device and then you can continue with adding the device back.
