Instructions for enrolling your MHC Account in Google 2-step verification.
Overview
Like many other colleges, in order to protect both individual accounts and the college network of users, Mount Holyoke College requires that MHC Google accounts enable 2-step verification.
How to enroll
Enrolling the first time you log into your MHC Google account
When you first log into your MHC Google account, you should be prompted* to enroll in 2-step verification.
* If you initially log into your MHC Google account on mobile, you may not see the prompts to enroll. If that's your experience, please follow the "Enrolling after your first Google login" instructions below.
- Make sure you have a phone, as you'll need it to enroll
- Start by logging into your MHC Google account
- Agree to the terms and conditions
- Choose to Enroll in Google 2-step
- Provide a phone number where you'd like to receive your first verification code
- Choose how you'd like to receive your first verification code (call or text) and choose Next
- Enter the code that you receive into the box provided (It just needs the numbers; don't include the "g-") and confirm
- Choose Turn On
- Set up additional verification methods
Enrolling after your first Google login
To enroll after your first Google login, follow Google's instructions for turning on 2-step verification ASAP.
You can only self-enroll within 2 weeks of the first time you log in to your MHC Google account.
After the initial self-enrollment period, you'll be locked out of your MHC Google account temporarily. If this has happened for you, please use the MHC Account access support service to get help.
Verification methods
LITS recommends setting up multiple Google 2-step verification methods to minimize the likelihood that you get locked out of your MHC Google account at an inconvenient time.

Skipping 2-step on trusted devices
If you don't want to provide a second verification step each time you sign in on your computer or phone, check the box next to "Don't ask again on this computer" or "Don't ask again on this device."
Only check this box on devices you regularly use and don't share with anyone else.
