How to restart your Avaya phone

Overview

Use these instructions for restarting an Avaya desk model J179 telephone.

When is this a useful troubleshooting step?

You might want to do this if your phone screen indicates that the phone isn't logged in. Restarting the phone will trigger the phone to check back in and auto-login based on information in the phone system. If this doesn't work, open a phone support ticket (or let us know on your existing ticket that restarting didn't work).

How to restart your Avaya phone

  1. Turn the telephone upside down.
  2. Remove the power cord (if there is one), and the Ethernet cable closest to the blinking light from the underside of the telephone.
  3. Wait a full 15 seconds for the telephone to completely turn off.
  4. Re-connect the cord/cables that were removed.

The telephone should complete the start-up cycle within 2 minutes and be available for use.
