How to set call forwarding for Avaya phones

Overview

Use these instructions to set up call forwarding using short codes or from the Avaya Self-Administration portal.

The 3 available call forwarding settings

  1. Forward Unconditional: This will forward all calls immediately to the forward number you’ve provided.
  2. Forward On Busy: This will forward all calls to the forward number when your extension is busy.
  3. Forward On No Answer: This will forward all calls if they aren’t answered within 15 seconds.

Setting up call forwarding with short codes

Short codes are numbers that you can dial to enable and disable various features. The following short codes allow you to set and change your call forwarding settings.

Forward Unconditional

  • Set the Forward Unconditional Destination: *07*N# – Set the destination number (N) for 'forward unconditional' when it is switched on.
    • Ex. *07*914135551234#
  • Switch Forward Unconditional ON:  *01 – Switch on 'forward unconditional.' A destination must have been set.
  • Switch Forward Unconditional OFF: *02

Forward on Busy/No Answer

  • Switch Forward on Busy ON: *03
  • Switch Forward on Busy OFF: *04
  • Switch Forward on No Answer ON: *05
  • Switch Forward on No Answer OFF: *06

Cancel All Forwarding

  • *00 – Switch OFF any forwarding (includes 'forward unconditional,' 'forward on busy,' 'forward on no answer,' 'follow me,' and 'do not disturb').

Note on using short codes: The phone isn't always going to be very clear that it's done the thing you've asked it to do when using short codes. For example, when you cancel all forwarding, the phone will just beep twice. Rest assured that the short code has still worked.

Setting up Call Forwarding from the Avaya Self-Administration Portal

  1. Go to the Avaya Self-Administration portal
  2. Log in with your phone username (usually the same as your MHC username) and your Avaya Self-Administration password
    • Don’t know your Avaya Self-Administration password? Use the short code method explained above or contact the Technology Help Desk.
  3. Navigate to Call Handling.
  4. Enter the phone number that you’d like your calls to be forwarded to in the Forward Number field in the top right.
    • To forward to an off-campus number, you’ll need to dial 9 first. If it’s not a local 413 number, you’ll also need to add a 1 before the number. Ex 914135551234
  5. Then choose your desired forwarding option (options listed at the top of this article).
